Definition: Central Semitic, to surround, gird. 1a. izar, from Arabic ^ɔizār covering, loincloth, wrap, shawl; b. Mizar, from Arabic mi^ɔzar, cloak, covering, Mizar. Both a and b from Arabic ^ɔazara, to surround (compare also the probably denominative derived stem ^ɔazzara, to clothe, cover). 2. vizier, from Arabic wazīr, vizier, minister, burdened, either from ^ɔāzara, to help, derived stem of ^ɔazara, to surround (see above), or from wazara, to carry a burden, take upon oneself (see wzr).
